Dental Implants Leighton Buzzard

The closest replacement for the look, feel and function of your natural teeth.

Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

When missing one or more teeth, it doesn’t just cause a gap in your smile. It affects your self-esteem, speech, chewing, and more. When your smile is incomplete, your other natural teeth may shift to fill the space, which can cause dental issues like misalignment, crooked teeth, and other complications for your oral health.

Our dental implant service in Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard practice fixes these issues before they become too problematic. Dental implants are a long-lasting solution to give you back your smile.

Contrary to popular belief, dental implants aren’t the replacement tooth itself. Instead, dental implants are what happens below the surface. When a patient is missing a permanent tooth, or has a damaged or decayed tooth that needs to be removed, the tooth roots go with it. Dental implants are the titanium tooth root replacements.

Implants are surgically placed in the jaw and fuse with the jawbone, keeping the implants firmly in place. The implant holds the artificial tooth or bridge, and blends in seamlessly with your smile. Implants are designed to look and function like natural teeth.

The Benefits You Receive with Dental Implants in Leighton Buzzard

There are a multitude of reasons to get dental implants. Dental implants look amazing, and feel and function just like natural teeth in your mouth. Here are some of the other benefits that may come when you move forward with dental implants:

  • Newfound confidence:. You will no longer feel self-conscious about missing teeth.
  • Secure replacement teeth:. The bone heals tightly around the implant, giving your new teeth solid support. You won’t have to worry about dentures moving or falling out.
  • Looking younger:. When missing teeth aren’t replaced, bone loss may occur at the site, leading to extra wrinkles and changing facial structures.
  • Eating feels good again:. You will be able to resume eating foods you previously gave up because they were too hard to eat. Being able to better chew your food leads to better digestion, too.
  • No cavities for your implants:. The materials used in implants and artificial teeth can’t decay like your natural teeth.
  • Improved speech:. Dental implants for certain teeth can enhance your speech and pronunciation.
  • No impact to adjacent teeth:. Unlike bridges, which may be supported by natural teeth, implants do not affect the surrounding teeth.

Dental Implant Treatments In Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard practice

There are a few different implant treatments we can offer you at Pear Tree Dental Practice. When you meet with Perri, he’ll provide recommendations for treatment based on his assessment. Depending on the location and number of missing teeth, Perri may recommend:

  • A single implant: This straightforward treatment is a routine surgery that replaces each missing tooth with one implant.
  • All-On-4:. When multiple teeth are missing in a single arch, this technique may be a terrific option. It uses strategically-placed implants in areas of strong bone and screws a denture prosthesis into place. This means patients get exceptional functionality from having several missing teeth replaced without requiring an implant for each tooth.
  • Implant supported dentures:. This is another dental implant treatment for multiple missing teeth. Implant-supported dentures are usually recommended for patients who don’t have enough bone support. It uses the functionality of a removable denture, but makes them less cumbersome to wear thanks to the stability provided by the implant.

Dental Implant Treatment Planning

Dental implant surgery at our Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard practice, is a routine procedure, and we give you all the information you need upfront to feel comfortable. We’ll give you thorough instructions to follow leading up to the appointment and aftercare procedures once the implants have been placed.

Treatment always starts with a comprehensive dental exam, which includes taking digital imaging and making models of your teeth and jaw. The way we perform the surgery depends on the type of dental implants you’ll receive and the condition of your jawbone. It may take several procedures and a few months to heal entirely, but it’s worth it.

Overall, the whole process involves multiple steps:

  1. Damaged tooth removal
  2. Jawbone grafting (where needed)
  3. Placement of the dental implant
  4. Bone growth and healing
  5. Abutment placement
  6. Artificial tooth placement

Don’t worry, we perform the surgery under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain throughout the procedure. Your aftercare instructions will outline how to manage pain as you heal.
